Transport, Travel & Logistics

Andrew Charlton advises clients on aviation policy and government relations based on over three decades of experience in the legal, commercial, and aero-political aspects of the industry. As Chief Legal Officer of Qantas at a pivotal time, he obtained anti-trust immunity for the world’s first metal-neutral joint venture and steered Australia’s largest IPO and debt raising.

At the International Air Transport Association (IATA), first in Legal and then as Director of Government and Industry Affairs, he was involved in the overhaul of aviation liability and drafting the Cape Town Convention. He also led the industry campaign to retain its spectrum under attack from the newly formed mobile telephone companies. At SITA, a leading IT provider for the air transport industry, he was Director of Government and Industry Affairs. In this role, he successfully lobbied for SITA to be awarded the .aero TLD, and for mobile phones to allowed to operate on aeroplanes.

Andrew regularly writes about aviation matters in influential industry publications and moderates events globally. He is a Fellow of the Royal Aeronautical Society with Science and Law degrees from the University of New South Wales in Australia, where he was born. He speaks English, French and Japanese.

I’m pleased to be adding my air transport expertise to FIPRA’s growing aviation practice.  Together, we can offer deep industry understanding to answer our clients’ needs, in combination with FIPRA’s proven government affairs skills.
