Dr Alexandra Walmsley joins FIPRA as Special Advisor for Defence, Nuclear

Dr Alexandra Walmsley has joined FIPRA as Special Advisor for Defence and Nuclear. 

She has over 25 years of experience in the sectors.

“It’s a chance to work alongside former colleagues such as Special Advisor Stephanie Ayres and meet some fantastic new people,” she said.

“I am pleased to be helping to reinforce FIPRA’s in-house defence experience and expand FIPRA’s core knowledge base – the nuclear industry is global, vibrant and always fascinating.”

Alex opened her own consultancy, ASC Ltd, in 2004. She is also the UK boss of GEL, the largest independent nuclear laboratory in the USA. 

In 2019, Alex was appointed a Senior Advisor to Newton Europe, which works across security, nuclear and infrastructure programmes.

Before moving into consultancy, Alex was the original Defence Analyst at the Centre for European Reform.

Alex is a Fellow of the Royal Aeronautical Society and an Associate Fellow of RUSI. She is a frequent commentator on security issues in the international media and has written a book on Lithuanian history.

Alex earned her PhD and MA degrees in history from St Andrews University (Scotland).

As well as English, Alex speaks German and basic Lithuanian – as well as a smattering of other European languages.
