With over 40 years of experience in defense, business, and diplomacy, E.J. Herold has been at the heart of transatlantic security and industrial cooperation. His distinguished career includes roles as NATO Deputy Assistant Secretary General for Defense Investment, Chief of the Office of Defense Cooperation at the U.S. Embassy in Paris, and Business Development Executive for IBM BeLux. A retired U.S. Army Colonel, he has combined military, industry, and diplomatic expertise across Europe and beyond.
At NATO, he co-founded the NATO-Industry Forum in partnership with Allied Command Transformation, shaping the Alliance’s approach to armaments development for over a decade. At IBM, he was an early advocate of cloud computing for military command and control, reflecting his career-long focus on harnessing technological change for security advantage.
In addition to his advisory role, E.J. serves as Chair of the Supervisory Board of MITS Capital, LLC, directing investment into Ukraine’s defense industry. He is also a Member of The Spectrum Group, a defense consultancy in Alexandria, VA, and President & COO of Veteran Coalition International, a charity supporting NATO and partner-nation veterans.
E.J. holds a Bachelor of Science from the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, a Master of Science in Foreign Service from Georgetown University, and a Master of Science in Strategic Studies from the U.S. Air Force Air University, alongside equivalent diplomas from the French Joint Staff College and the Armaments War College in Paris. He is fluent in English, French, and German.
