Philip is a former British diplomat and has been working with Japanese government and business leaders for the past 20 years. He has spent five years developing the Japan practice of a leading business intelligence firm, managing relationships with senior executives at Japanese corporations and financial institutions.

Philip previously served on the International and Communications Committees of the Democratic Party of Japan (DPJ), working closely with former Minister for National Strategy, Economic and Fiscal Policy, Motohisa Furukawa, and was a visiting fellow at a DPJ-affiliated think tank. He also worked for the Foreign & Commonwealth Office for nine years, specialising in Asian affairs, including at the Political Section of the British Embassy in Tokyo.

Philip has an economics degree from Durham University, an MBA from Insead in France and Singapore. He speaks Japanese and English.
