Green Transition

Gerd joined FIPRA as a Special Advisor on Green Transition after having served as the Director General of European Aluminium (the European industry association for aluminum producers) from 2013 to 2022. Prior to that, he had a long successful career at Royal Philips for over 20 years, where he was the Global Head of Public Affairs.

Gerd brings with him a wealth of experience in developing framework conditions for sustainable industrial transformation and promoting stakeholder engagement.

During his time at European Aluminium, Gerd launched the “Sustainability Roadmap Towards 2025” as a driver to reposition the entire value chain, long before the Green Deal and subsequent (European Commission) initiatives.

With a career spanning more than four decades, Gerd has gained deep insights into business and political decision-making processes having held leadership positions in a variety of multicultural and global organisations in Berlin, Hamburg, Amsterdam, and Brussels.

A German national, Gerd studied Business Administration and Economics at Berlin’s Free University and Université Paris-Dauphine and earned his Ph.D. from Berlin’s Free University.

Along with German, Gerd also speaks English, French, and some Dutch.
